Project Type
Bricklaying
We take the extra time necessary to guarantee perfection. Every brick installation must adhere to certain basic standards in appearance. The units should be straight, level, and plumb. A background in art and design carries over into our brickwork. Brick headers over doorways and windows are installed to accentuate the opening. Doors and windows are often framed in brick. We take great care and pride that our brickwork exceeds our customers’ expectations.
Fieldstone
A good stone job is reminiscent of a mountainside. Stonework evokes a feeling of permanence and elegance. We approach every stone job like a sculpture. Many customers seek out Garneau Construction for our stone masonry. Stone walls and columns are straight and plumb. Every joint around the stone is even and tight. Every stone is dressed, (chiseled), for a perfect fit with even mortar joints.
Limestone
Carved limestone adds texture and grace to our masonry projects. We are the only masonry contractor to manufacture carved limestone headers, sills, and number stones. This capability allows Garneau Construction to deliver custom stone details to meet any schedule and budget. Garneau Construction’s custom limestone designs add distinction to projects. Smooth carved limestone next to fieldstone gives a masonry project depth. The color contrast between limestone and brick accentuates the window and door openings.
Commercial Projects
Garneau Construction has completed many commercial masonry projects. We have the capability and manpower to keep commercial projects ahead of schedule. We have built student housing at Illinois State University, Lincoln College, and Millikin University in Decatur. The same care and creativity we put into houses goes into every large-scale project. Our ability to manufacture the limestone headers and sills has saved time and money on many commercial projects.
Restoration
E.J. started his career in the high-rise restoration business in Chicago. We have a deep respect for old masonry buildings and their history. Restored and repaired areas must match the building perfectly. Customers are unable to discern between the existing masonry and the repaired areas. Care is taken when removing deteriorated mortar for tuck-pointing. Color samples are created for each job to ensure a quality match with old mortar and stone. E.J. is an authorized Jahn installer.
Terra Cotta is a manufactured stone used on many old buildings. Garneau Construction successfully restored the two highest profile terra cotta buildings in Bloomington – The Castle Theater and the Ensenburger Building. This painstaking process uses highly specialized mortars and glazes to achieve a color and texture match.

What Our Customers Have To Say
“Without hesitation I would give my highest recommendation to EJ Garneau of Garneau Construction. Recently I discovered that I would need a new foundation installed in my historic home which exceeds 100 years of age. It was a stressful task trying to find a reputable company to complete this restoration. Upon the recommendation of Trunk Bay Homes, I contacted EJ for an estimate and consultation. Upon meeting with him I was reassured of his knowledge and professionalism. I received bids from 6 other companies. Mr. Garneau’s price was on a par with the others, however they did not instill a confidence within me. I decided to hire Garneau construction for the job.
Within the execution of my foundation EJ was on-site daily to insure that the job was done right. He was always available to me to patiently answer any questions I might have had or to explain the work as it progresses. His workers were extremely polite and careful to preserve any of my landscaping that could be saved. I now have a firm foundation for my home that I can be confident and proud of. What I feared might be an overwhelming operation turned out to be a positive one thanks to Garneau Construction.
Thank you EJ!”
