E.J. began his career in the high-rise restoration business in Chicago, where he developed a deep respect for old masonry buildings and their history. At Garneau Construction, we restore and repair areas to seamlessly match the existing structure, making it impossible for customers to distinguish between the original masonry and the repairs. We remove deteriorated mortar for tuck-pointing and create custom color samples for each job to create a perfect match with the old mortar and stone. Additionally, E.J. is an authorized Jahn installer.
Terra cotta, a manufactured stone used on many historic buildings, requires expert restoration. Garneau Construction has successfully restored the two highest-profile terra cotta buildings in Bloomington – The Castle Theater and the Ensenburger Building. This meticulous process involves using highly specialized mortars and glazes to achieve an exact color and texture match, so the restored sections blend seamlessly with the original architecture.
Terracotta, once a popular material for accenting buildings, has become expensive and costly to replace when damaged. A more cost-effective method of repair involves replacing damaged pieces with limestone stained to match. We start by removing the damaged piece and creating a template, which is then used to shape the limestone. Finally, we stain the stone to match the building and install the completed piece, ensuring a seamless and durable repair.
